The client is a European GreenTech organisation working to make carbon awareness accessible to small businesses and individuals. Rather than selling complex enterprise sustainability suites, it focuses on helping people take a first practical step: understanding where their emissions come from and what they can realistically change.
Across Europe, growing regulatory focus on climate, from the European Green Deal to CSRD obligations cascading down supply chains, means smaller organisations are increasingly asked about their footprint. Many have no sustainability specialist and no budget for enterprise tools. The client saw a free, engaging web tool as the most effective way to reach this audience, build trust and attract organic search traffic around sustainability topics.
This project was delivered under a Non-Disclosure Agreement. The client operates in the Sustainability sector (GreenTech) and is based in Europe.
Existing carbon calculators tended to fall into two camps. Some were so technical that they demanded data most small firms and households simply do not have; others were so generic that their results felt meaningless and did nothing to change behaviour. Users abandoned them quickly, and the opportunity to educate and motivate was lost.
The client needed a tool that felt simple yet produced credible, category-based estimates, updated instantly as users entered information, and turned numbers into clear visuals and concrete recommendations. It had to load quickly on mobile, work across devices, and give users something tangible to keep, all while being discoverable through search for sustainability-related queries.

PapaSiddhi built a lightweight, interactive carbon footprint calculator using Vue.js for a reactive interface, a PHP back end for calculation logic and report generation, and MySQL for storing emission factors and session data. Dynamic multi-category input forms guide users through areas such as energy, travel and consumption, revealing only relevant questions to keep the experience short and approachable.
A real-time calculation engine updates the footprint as each value changes, drawing on the Carbon Intensity API to reflect current grid emissions data. Results are presented through interactive charts that show which categories contribute most, followed by personalised reduction recommendations tailored to the user's answers. Users can download a PDF report of their results, giving businesses a simple document to share internally or with customers. The mobile-optimised, fast-loading design and search-friendly page structure were planned from the outset to support organic discovery across European markets.
